Meet Torrey Smith, director of BRIDGES at West Palm Beach. He’s been with us for six years. He loves helping families make transformational changes in their lives. He’s from Florida and has lived all over the country. And he’s a really good artist.
1) Describe your job at BRIDGES.
Torrey Smith: To oversee the day-to-day operations of BRIDGES at West Palm Beach while promoting our vision to make sure that families are empowered and communities are connected.
2) Why did you decide to work at BRIDGES?
Torrey Smith: BRIDGES allowed me the opportunity to be impactful in the community rather than just making the community successful. By being impactful, my team and I are given the opportunity to make a greater impact and a chance to make transformational change.
3) What do you enjoy most about your job?
Torrey Smith: Being able to form relationships with members of the community who are faced with unfavorable conditions but desire and are determined to not let their circumstances determine their destination. Also leading a remarkable self-driven team that makes each day unique.
4) How are you making a difference in the lives of BRIDGES families?
Torrey Smith: With the help of my staff, day in and day out, we empower our members and form lasting relationships which change the narrative about nonprofit organizations.
5) What do you hope families gain from attending BRIDGES activities?
Torrey Smith: I hope that families will get the assistance that they need and gain enough confidence in themselves to become self-sufficient enough to give back to others in need.
6) Tell us about yourself.
Torrey Smith: I was born in Florida but lived in different states such as Georgia, South Carolina and Iowa which permitted me the opportunity to form relationships with people from all over the world. I am married and blessed to have two sons. I have lived in Palm Beach County for five years but recently moved to St. Lucie County.
7) Tell us something that we do not know about you?
Torrey Smith: I am exceptionally good at drawing, painting, woodworking and graphic design.
