1) Describe your job at BRIDGES.
Colin Walkes: I see my role as Director of BRIDGES at Belle Glade as a connector of people to resources, not only for our families but to my team partners as well. As the director of BRIDGES, I have to be a cheerleader for all things positive that can impact our members and community at large, quality of life. Furthermore, as director, I must maintain intentionality in service delivery in order to reach desired outcomes for our families, thus I must ensure the design and implementation of all services involve those we serve.

Colin Walkes: I do believe I’m making a difference in the lives of our families by facilitating an atmosphere in our building that promotes positivity and sparks a thought provoking culture surrounding family dynamics.

Colin Walkes: My hope is that our families gain insight that will afford them a better quality of life. I hope that our families through participating in our activities will be able to see their way out of any dark moment they may encounter in life and to know that BRIDGES will always be here for them.
6) Tell us about yourself –
Colin Walkes: I’m a child of God, husband, son, brother, father and former Mayor of Pahokee, Florida. I was elected as Mayor of Pahokee in 2013-2016. I am married to Kimberly Wakes and we have four children. I believe in being a good steward of the gifts given to me. With this belief, the work I do is an honor, privilege, duty, and a right, and I credit this philosophy to my success to date.
I was born in Barbados and came to the USA at the age of 8 years old and was raised in both cities of Belle Glade and Pahokee. I graduated from Pahokee Middle Senior High School in 1992. To further my education I attended Alabama State University where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. While in school I enlisted in the US Army Reserve in 1995. The decision to joined the Armed Forces would have a lasting effect on the way I present myself as a professional. I was honorably discharged in 2003. I credit my educational experience at Alabama State University and service in the Armed Forces with keeping me focused on the benefits associated with hard work, determination and perseverance. To better understand public relations and strategies to be a more effective servant, I earned my Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Ashford University in 2014. In conclusion, I’m an optimist who believes in humanity and our ability to adapt and overcome all of life’s challenges when we work together.
