FirstPlay® teaches new parents how to bond with their babies through storytelling and touch. The practice has roots in Developmental Play Therapy, touch research, neuroscience, and attachment theory.  In practice, it has many of the elements of traditional infant massage, but with the additional depth and engagement of storytelling, attachment and attunement, and teaching new parents not only how to engage with their babies, but how to recognize how and when that engagement is happening.

In the class, the practitioner teaches the parent using a babydoll side by side with the parent and infant, so that all of the benefits of the touch interventions are taking place between parent and baby.  The practitioner never touches the baby.
